Ireland’s Shane Lowry is one of the country's most likeable sportspeople, having hit the headlines with one of the most memorable moments in Open Championship history, with historic victory at Royal Portrush in 2019.

In 2020, Lowry said, "No matter what my daughter Iris does in the future I hope that she gets the same enjoyment from sport that I have. I want her to have role models, and I want more than anything for her to have the same opportunities boys would have."
Lowry shared his daughter has recently expressed interest in playing golf with him.
"As a father of two daughters myself, it is great to see the coverage that the women are deservedly getting these days," Lowry said.
Lowry spoke about role models young female golfers may look up to including Leona Maguire, who recently was the only woman to compete at the JP McManus Pro Am.
"When you have world class super stars like Leona Maguire from this country," Lowry said. "It is great that they are starting to show something for Golf Ireland and starting to show their backing of women's golf...by putting together an Irish open."

I’m excited to see where the next 3 years will take us both”
