TG4 Aims To Increase Women’s Sport Coverage

TG4 has announced that it is increasing its women’s sports coverage. In the days and weeks ahead TG4 will broadcast and stream over 80 hours of Ladies's Gaelic Football, Women’s Rugby, Women’s Soccer and Women’s Cycling. This programming will be completely free-to-air.

  • Interprovincial Rugby Championship, Rugbaí na mBan
  • League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division Soccer, Sacar na mBan Beo
  • New Underdogs series

Tour de France na mBan Beo

The Women’s Tour de France began Sunday the 23rd of July and runs for a full week. Live coverage as well as daily highlights are currently on TG4 and continue until July 30th.

Peil na mBan Beo

TG4is proud broadcast sponsors of the annual Ladies Football All-Ireland Championship. All remaining games in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions will be on Peil na mBan Beo. The Senior semi-finals take place this Saturday July 29th. The TG4All-Ireland Final triple-header (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) will be held on August 13th in Croke Park, with live coverage on TG4.

Ceiliúradh Pheil na mBan 

There will also be a special Ceiliúradh Pheil na mBan programme broadcast on on Saturday August 12th the eve of the Ladies Football finals.

Minor All-Ireland Ladies Football Final

The Minor All-Ireland Ladies Football Final will also be shown on the Spórt TG4 YouTube page on August 5th.

Rugbaí na mBan

In Rugby, the Vodafone Women's Interprovincial Championship gets underway on Saturday August 12th and features two games each weekend, with the finals being held on September 2nd. Rugbaí na mBan Beo will broadcast all 8 games live.

Sacar na mBan Beo 

While the Ireland Women’s National Soccer Team compete in the World Cup, back home women’s soccer is flourishing on TG4. To coincide with the World Cup Final, Sacar na mBan Beo recommences on August 19th and runs until November 11th. TG4 will show the final 8 rounds of the fiercely competitive FAI Women’s National League Premier Division.

Underdogs

For the first time ever the acclaimed Underdogs series will focus on the women’s soccer. Players will be chosen and trained by a panel of expert coaches including Méabh de Búrca, Charlie McGeever and Laura Donovan. The Underdogs series runs for 6 episodes, from October 26th to November 30th, with a live game against a top League of Ireland team on December 2nd.

The Chairperson of TG4 Anna Ní Ghallachair, said: “One of the objectives in TG4’s current strategy is to champion underrepresented sports in Ireland. We are already pioneers in the broadcasting of women’s sports in Ireland and the Board are delighted that TG4 will be increasing its coverage of this important area of women’s lives in the weeks ahead.”
