The opening race of the women's Laser Radial World Championship's is due to take place today, after its postponement from yesterday due to lack of wind at the venue.

The race, which takes place in Mussanah, Oman will begin the qualification rounds for silver and gold fleets.

Aoife Hopkins & non-carded sailor Sienna Wright will be representing Ireland, both of whom hail from Howth Yacht Club.

Hopkins will be aiming for a strong result to finish off a successful year for the Irish Sailing Team.

“Aoife will be confident of getting a funding result after a strong performance at the Europeans last month and an excellent preparation period leading into the Worlds,” said James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing Performance Director.

“No doubt the recent results from her teammates will also serve as inspiration,” said O’Callaghan referring to Finn Lynch’s silver medal in the men’s race and Sean Craig’s World Masters fourth, both secured over the last month.

There will be two races a day until Saturday, when the fleets split into Gold and Silver depending on rank. The final result is expected by Monday the 6th of December.
