The Shamrock Rovers triumphed over their Sligo counterparts at Tallaght Stadium on September 9th. Marking three wins in total along with one draw and a loss, this result put the rovers at third place on the Women’s Premier Division standings after Shelbourne and Peamount.

Irish international Aine O’Gorman scored the first goal fourteen minutes into the first half. A handball by Sligo’s Leah Kelly saw a penalty awarded to the Rovers where Aine O’Gorman’s ball found its way to the back of the net yet again.

The third goal came in the second half where a cross from O’Gorman was followed up by Lia O’Leary, ultimately scoring the third goal. Winning player of the match, Scarlett Heron had a special game scoring her first ever goal for the rovers after being assisted with a corner kick by O’Gorman.

Although his team won, Shamrock Rovers coach Collie O’Neil had a different outlook on the match result: “I’m just one of those people that has high expectations because we know they can do much, much better and that’s why we demand it from them”, he said.

As it stands, O’Gorman, who announced her retirement from international soccer earlier this month, looks like she will continue to prosper in the Women’s Premier Division. Of all the players in this match, she undoubtedly stood out the most, scoring two points and assisting with the remaining two goals.

“We want to play a good brand of football-pass the ball, be a possession based team," O’Gorman said in a post match interview. "The goals eventually came in the end and we knew if we kept sticking to our job that it would work out.”
