Comerford Leads the Irish Charge in Paris

Orla Comerford started Team Ireland’s day with intent at the 2024 Handisport Open in Stade Charléty, Paris, powering through the line to claim the first place position in the 100m T13. 

She finished the race in a time of 12.18 with a -2.1 headwind. 

The Raheny Shamrocks sprinter has been in amazing form as of late and is in competition again on Sunday at the Troyes Aube International Athletics Meeting.

Speaking after her race Comerford said: “Yeah, mixed bag, I'm happy to come away with the win but not terribly happy with the time.”

Alex Lee placed fourth in the 100m T62/T64 in a time of 11.89 with a -0.7 headwind. Tomorrow he will be in competition again in his favoured event the 200m T64.

Lana Sutton had an excellent international debut coming second in the 100m T37/38 in a time of 13.19 with a -1.1 headwind. This is a high performance standard for Paris. She will compete in the Long Jump T37/38 tomorrow.

Aaron Shorten put in a gutsy performance to finish 4th in the 1500m T20. Shorten pushed through on the final lap staying with the leaders and finishing strong.

Additionally, Mary Fitzgerald will contest the F40 Shot Put and Cathal Ryan will line up for the 400m T46/47 tomorrow.
