AIB claimed another LGFA Interfirms Cup title at the GAA’s National Games Development Centre at the Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown, on Saturday Oct. 7.

Captained by former Cork star Annie Walsh, winner of eight TG4 All-Ireland Senior medals during her inter-county playing days, AIB got the better of Boston Scientific by 3-10 to 3-4 in the Final.

With former Limerick ace Dymphna O’Brien and current Clare captain Caoimhe Harvey other players of note in the AIB ranks, they emerged victorious once again.

AIB won three successive Interfirms titles from 2017-2019 and after the competition was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, AIB didn’t compete last year as PWC Ireland (White) claimed the honours.

But AIB were back with a bang this year and after seeing off PWC (1) at the semi-final stage, they eventually got the better of a gallant Boston Scientific, who defeated PWC (2) in the semi-finals.

O’Brien and Lisa Gorman netted in the first half for AIB as they led by 2-5 to 1-3 at the break, with O’Brien adding her second goal after the interval to quell a spirited Boston Scientific fightback.

“Delighted to be here,” Harvey said. “You’re networking and getting to play with other people within the organisation. It’s great.

“This was my first year to play and that we’ve had a team since Covid.

“You’d know these people (team-mates) by faces and it’s getting to really know them. It’s a great day out and delighted to be a part of it.”

Shield honours on the day went to Zurich Insurance, who overcame An Post Insurance 2-0 on kicks.

The game finished level after normal time, with Zurich registering 6-3 to An Post’s 4-9.

Zurich’s outstanding captain, Amy Wilson, collected the Shield from Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Mícheál Naughton, after the game.

Seven teams competed in the competitive section of the Interfirms blitz, while 13 teams signed up for the recreational blitz.

The teams who took part in the Interfirms Cup competition were Boston Scientific, PWC Black, PWC White, AIB, An Post Insurance, Zurich Insurance, and NI Fire & Rescue.

Participating in the recreational blitz were Loreto GS, Hamlet Court Hotel, WuXi Biologics, Intel, Fexco Limited, Kane Group, Alternative Heat LTD, Randox Laboratories (1), Randox Laboratories (2), Civil Service, Activ8 Energies, PWC, and Boston Scientific Clonmel.
