Rhasidat Adeleke has broken her own Irish U23 400m Indoor Record, setting a new time of 52.61s. Adeleke, representing the University of Texas, finished third behind Kennedy Simon and Rosey Effiong, at the Fastrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge in Texas.

With a time of 52.61, Adeleke also climbs to third on the all-time Irish senior list behind Karen Shinkins (51.58) and Phil Healy (51.94).  Under two hours later, Adeleke helped Texas to a third place finish in the 4x400m relay, clocking a split of 52.3.

It's the second record breaking run by the Tallaght runner in the space of a week. Last weekend, Adeleke clocked 36.87 in the 300m indoor event. This was the fastest time ever by an Irish woman over the indoor distance indoors, and was also the fastest ever time clocked by a European teenager.

In 2021, Rhasidat Adeleke became a European Athletics U20 sprint double champion.

Adeleke made incredible progress in her first year at the University of Texas - breaking the Irish U23 Indoor 400m record in February. Adeleke went on to break this on Friday by 0.83s. Adeleke also set a new outdoor 200M record in July as she won gold in Talinn.

Her versatility over multiple distances is astonishing.
