Rin Keys Becomes First American Athlete To Medal At A Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship

Rin Keys became the first rhythmic gymnast in the Americas to win a medal at a World Championships, in both the junior or senior divisions, at the second ever Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Junior World Championships in Cluj Napoca, Romania, on Sunday July 9.

The fourteen-year old made history when she won bronze for her performance in the clubs category with a score of 29.400. Keys is also last years U.S. junior all-around silver medalist in Rhythmic gymnastics.

Rhythmic gymnasts compete in a series of events: hoops, balls, clubs, and ribbons, and an all-around competition.

Keys was third to fourteen-year old Liliana Lewinska from Poland (30.950), and fifteen-year old Taisiia Onofriichuk from Ukraine (29.750). Lewiska became the first ever Polish gymnast to win a World Championships medal.

Some upcoming rythmic gymnastic events are:  The 2023 FIG World Challenge Cup from July 14 - 16, 2023, 2023 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships from August 23, 2023 - August 27, 2023, and the 2023 Pan American Games from October 21, 2023 - November 4, 2023.
