There it was Taylor who narrowly edged a split decision victory in the lightweight fight, in what is largely referred to as one of the greatest women’s boxing fights in history.

The Bray woman is currently the undisputed champion at light-welterweight, with Serrano stepping up a weight class in order to make her claim for the belts.

Speaking about the news, Taylor spoke of how “this is the rematch the world has wanted to see.”

"The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I'm sure the rematch will be no different,” she added.

Following the pair’s last clash, Taylor switched to light-welterweight, fighting Britain’s Chantelle Cameron on two occasions, losing the first and winning the second, both of which took place at the 3 arena Dublin.

That leaves the Irish fighter’s current career record standing at 23-1.

Meanwhile, Serrano forged her own path, vacating her WBC featherweight title last year, and taking a stand in order to push for 12x3 minute rounds in women’s boxing.

With that said however, for Taylor v Serrano 2 she will resume the current standard of 10x2 minute rounds, a road she was happy to take in order to make the fight happen.

“[Taylor]’s the champ, so that is what we will do,” she said on social media.

“I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision. This time I’m not leaving it to the judges. No more sweet Serrano. War mentality activated.

“Thank you Jordan, Nakisa, Jake, Mike and Netflix for making the biggest women’s boxing event ever.

“See you soon Katie.”

Approaching the fight, the Puerto Rican is now 46-2-1, having won all four of her fights since losing to Taylor, although her most recent scheduled outing vs Nina Meinke did have to be cancelled at the last minute due to an eye injury.

On the match up, legendary boxer Tyson, Paul’s opponent on the same evening, has said that Taylor and Serrano “are two of the best boxers in the world” and that he’s assured in his thought that “they can both put on an incredible show.”

“I’m thrilled to have them join this card,” he says.

“These remarkable athletes will undoubtedly elevate the event with their global appeal and fan bases. Adding one of the greatest fights in women's boxing history to this unforgettable event is a true gift to fans. Saturday, July 20 can’t get here soon enough.”
